Lost a Mahjong Tile? How to Ask for a Replacement
Document the exact missing piece, dimensions and back design so a seller can assess whether a replacement will match.
If a tile is missing, first confirm exactly which piece it is. A precise inventory and clear photographs make it easier to ask for a replacement and avoid ordering something that looks similar but does not match in play.
Recount before ordering
Sort the playing tiles by family and check the spare pouch, bag lining, trays and floor around the last table. Ask the host privately whether a piece was found after packing. Keep a note of the missing identity and quantity.
Do not rely on a total alone. A box can contain the expected number of pieces while one type is missing and another has an extra.
Provide useful matching details
Send the brand, design name, order information if available, tile dimensions and photographs of a matching face, back and edge. Avoid public posts containing receipts or personal addresses.
A replacement needs to match more than the front symbol. Differences in thickness, colour, edge wear or back design can reveal its identity before it is drawn.
Ask about a suitable solution
The seller may have a matching piece, an approved spare method or no compatible stock. Do not assume a blank, sticker or tile from another brand solves the problem fairly. Keep the set out of normal play if a substitute is identifiable from the back.
For Café Mahjong sets, contact the shop with the specific design and evidence. Keep any supplied spare tiles with their original set so future replacement questions have the best possible starting point.
