Planning a Mahjong Weekend Away: What to Confirm First
Check the accommodation, table and shared equipment before taking a full mahjong setup on a weekend away.
Before packing a mahjong set for a weekend away, confirm that there will be a suitable place and willing people to play. Transporting a complete setup is less rewarding if the only table is unstable or the group expected different activities.
Ask about the destination
Check table dimensions, available chairs and any accommodation rules about using shared rooms. Ask permission before moving furniture or placing a rubber-backed mat on an unfamiliar surface. Keep photographs and measurements with your packing notes.
Agree on the game and card with the other players. If someone needs an introduction, plan a teaching session instead of assuming they can join ordinary play immediately.
Assign equipment once
Decide who brings tiles, racks, mat and any shared accessories. Each player should confirm their personal card. A single group checklist avoids several heavy duplicate bags and one forgotten essential.
Pack the set securely according to its care instructions. Check the actual transport provider's current baggage rules where relevant; do not rely on a friend's experience from another journey.
Plan the return check
Count the inventory before leaving the destination, including spare pieces and dice. Look under the table and in storage pockets while there is still time to recover something left behind.
Café Mahjong's kit-packing guide covers the physical checklist. The additional step for a weekend trip is coordination: make sure the equipment, room and people are all part of the same plan before the bag is zipped.
